Description: Xianghe “Jerry” Kong is a third-year undergraduate student studying Exhibition Economy and Management at through the School of Tourism Management Sun-Yat Sen University in Guangzhou, China. His small hometown (near the Dongting Lake in Hunan Province, China) has confronted rapid water pollution as the result of economic development in recent years. In 2015, led a research team of students through an investigation of the effects that water pollution can have on residents. This experience led him to the conclusion that environmental security cannot be sacrificed for economic development. Volunteer experiences with children have taught him the value and honor of helping people in trouble domestically and abroad. During his time in the United States, he intends to learn about American culture and to bring attention and aid to underserved people through the practice and teaching of art.  Fellowship Placement: Oakland Asian Cultural Center
