Description: Wen “Sherry” Jia is a first-year Masters’ student studying Interpretation at Sun-Yat Sen University in Guangzhou, China. Her Bachelors’ degree is in English Education from Shanghai Normal University. She is ultimately interested in working with youths and underprivileged communities, and sees the educational system in China as key to helping others. Previously, she has volunteered her time to teaching English to children in Nepal and China and doing administrative work for a hospital in the Philippines. In 2015, she took part in the Harvard Summit for Young Leaders in China as a teaching assistant and student leader, where she participated in designing and supporting a “Harvard-style seminar” on “The Functional Ambiguity of Shakespeare’s Anthony and Cleopatra.” During her time in the United States, she seeks to prepare for post-graduation work with NGOs and NPOs.  Fellowship Placement: East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation
