Description: Tsz Ying “Gabriela” Lai is a second-year undergraduate student studying Cultural Studies at Lingan University in Hong Kong. She strongly believes that the best possible way to learn about something is through firsthand experience. Her post-graduation plan is to begin an arts education project that serves children from underprivileged families. She wants to do so because she considers access to the arts a universal right and because she believes that the best civil education can be through the exchange of experiences and ideas offered by the arts. She is currently working on a research project that examines the impact of education reform on arts education in secondary schools in Hong Kong. She is eager to take her academic knowledge into the real world during her time in the United States, and hopes while she is here to have the chance to sit in on university course lectures and conferences held by institutions such as the Rockefeller Foundation.
