Description: Tang Yui Ming, Astraea, interned at two sites, the Center for Community Learning (CCL) at UCLA and The Broad Stage. CCL is aimed at promoting civic engagement of UCLA students and faculty by promoting an awareness of public issues and active participation with community organizations. It encdourages the integration of teaching, research, and service in collaboration with community partners. The Broad Stage, founded at Santa Monica, contributes to the local cultural community through arts education, which helps to build a new generation of audience and artists and promotes the free exchange of ideas in an open, caring community of learners. Astraea worked as a Program Assistant of JumpStart at CCL, which is a pre-school educational program for low-income communities and is sponsored by Americorps. She also acted as an Educational Assistant at The Broad Stage, focusing on outreach to community partners and organizing free or low-cost arts education.
